Karen and Foggy curiously wonder what has happened to their blind friend when he seems to have disappeared. Little do they know he's being transported by plane to a remote island hideout on a volcanic piece of rock, home to the evil Owl! From inside his aerie, the Owl sees the plane approach, and rallies his assistants to prepare to hold a trial against Judge Lewis, the man who sentenced him to prison after his last battle with Daredevil (see DD #3.) In his insane way, the Owl wants to pursue his own brand of justice, by persecuting those who tried to bring him to justice!

They welcome Matt Murdock into the aerie, and explain to him that he is going to serve as defense attorney for Judge Lewis in this kangaroo court. He has gathered an assemblage of cons, all of whom Judge Lewis had also put away for jail terms, to act as jury. As Matt Murdock tries to gauge his surroundings and figure a way out, he tries to continue dialogue to buy time. He realizes the only way out is to bring Daredevil into the mix, and so Matt Murdock demands that he be able to go find witnesses to speak on Judge Lewis' behalf. The Owl cackles with delight about Murdock's naive request, and allows him to go search the island all he wants for a witness, but to return in five minutes time or the trial will start without him.

As he exits the "courtroom", Murdock feels part of the ceiling crumble from over him. He thinks little of it, and heads outside, while the Owl and the thugs are sure Murdock, the blind man, will meet his doom outside in the dangerous landscape of the Owl's volcanic island. But minutes later, they are shocked to see Daredevil burst through the door! He explains that he tagged along when he saw Murdock kidnaped, and has made sure the blind attorney is safe outside. He starts dispatching all of the Owl's goons with haste. The Owl tosses onto the floor a box of billiard balls that keep DD off balance, allowing the Owl to position him underneath one of his bird cages. He presses a button and the cage falls down to the floor, imprisoning Daredevil. The Owl declares that he has been added to the trial along with Judge Lewis, and that the verdict is death!
